Who will take me home??????
Most Fridays, Peter Panda goes home with a student in our class. This will be a student that has reached a goal, had outstanding behavior, or shown great character qualities. In special situations, Peter may go home with a student in need of a comforting friend. It is an honor to have him stay at your home. He comes with his own bag and journal. Peter's journal is for recording the adventures he has while visiting your child. Your child needs to write about this visit in the journal. You should help them come up with ideas. Please remember that is should be told from Peter's point of view. "I got to meet Mary's family. They were so nice to me. I was scared so I hid under Mary's covers!" Parents may help out with writing, but let them do most of it. It is best done in small amounts! It is great when you can take pictures to include in the journal. It will be read at morning meeting on Mondays. Please don't forget to send Peter (& all his "stuff") back to school on Mondays or the first day we are in school after the weekend.
Frequently asked questions:
What do we do with Peter? Enjoy taking him everywhere with you. Many take pictures of their student & Peter doing different things together to be sent in and added to his ongoing journal. Please leave Peter in the car if you think he might get lost.
Can brothers & sisters enjoy Peter? Yes, but he needs to be protected from sticky hands & other harmful activities like Tug-o-war!
May we add new things to Peter's collection? Yes, but keep it small. His bag gets heavy! We enjoy seeing new things for Peter. One time he visited The Bear Company & they gave him a birth certificate!
Can my child get Peter more than once? Yes! Getting Peter is a privilege that's earned. Sadly, Peter doesn't always get to go home with every student. He only goes with students that are trustworthy, respectful, & caring.
Does Peter go home with someone over the holidays? I let the children write letters to me to tell why Peter should go home with them over vacation. It's a big responsibility to write that much in his journal so I want them to be serious about wanting that job. I may also check with parents because you will need to help with that job, but it can be great fun! They love making up his adventures! Peter also votes where he wants to go!
May we wash Peter Panda? It's fine to wipe something off of him with a damp cloth, but don't put him in the washer - it's to traumatic for him!!!
Can Peter sleep with my child? Yes, but be careful. He likes to take all the covers for himself!!!
What are Peter's favorite foods? Pizza is his all-time favorite, but he loves: ice cream, pancakes, spaghetti, and cookies, too!!!
